Happy Tuesday, friends!
I’m sharing a Paperback Picks post with you today and talking about the two books that I read this month plus a little Bible verse read. After reading 24 books last year, my goal for 2018 is to read at least three books a month and share them here with you! I only read two this month (boo!), and I’m blaming it on the lack of sleep adjustment period we’ve had since getting Lucky 🙂 I should have a little extra time in April and hope to get back on track!
I read Freedom by Jaycee Dugard this month because I read her first book (A Stolen Life) back in high school and wanted to read her follow up to it! I would say if you haven’t read her first book, go back and read that one first. Jaycee was kidnapped at the age of eleven and held captive for eighteen years. She tells an amazing story of resilience and strength in her first book as she details her experience. This one was more of a journal style book about Jaycee’s “firsts” after she escaped. It reads like a conversation with her would likely play out. I enjoyed learning a little bit more about her!
The Dry by Jane Harper was next on my list. This one took me almost the whole month to read… it just felt slow. I really wanted to love this one, but it just fell flat for me. It’s about a little town in Australia that is experiencing a drought when their little world is rocked by the murder of a family in their own home. A friend of one of the victims comes back in town for the funeral and ends up trying to solve the mystery of the murder. The story takes you through a lot of twists and turns, but I just didn’t love it. I’m hoping for better luck in my next thriller!
That’s it for this month! I’ll leave you with a Bible verse that I shared in my Finding Five post on Friday:
“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” Matthew 28:6
I hope you enjoyed celebrating Easter this weekend and took a moment to remark on the miracle of Jesus’ death and resurrection for you and me!
