Paperback Picks

Happy Tuesday friends!

I’m sharing a Paperback Picks post today and talking about the six books I read in July and August (I really liked four of them but didn’t love two!).  I did a lot of traveling in those couple of months and was able to get a lot of reading in!

I started out with Nantucket Nights by Elin Hilderbrand and didn’t love it.  Although she is one of my favorite authors, this book didn’t live up to her other stories in my opinion.  It’s about a group of three friends who are at their annual beach night when one of them disappears and the story that unfolds following that night.  I didn’t agree with some of the characters and didn’t like how it ended.  I kept my hopes up and started…

The Castaways.  It took me a little bit to get the hang of the characters because they all have intertwining relationships, but I ended up loving the storyline.  It’s a story of friends recovering from the loss of two of their own and each of their journeys through that time.  Secrets are uncovered and relationships are questioned.  This one had me dying to know what was coming next!

My third book of July was I’ll Walk Alone by Mary Higgins Clark.  This one was definitely a page turner!  It’s about a mother’s journey as both her identity and child are stolen and she has to prove her sanity to both herself and the people around her.  I really enjoyed this one!

Next up on my list was Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave.  The meaning behind the title is that it takes eight hundred grapes to make a bottle of wine.  The story takes place on a family vineyard and really had me captured with all of the drama that takes place in their lives.  Definitely a good read!

I finally jumped on the train and read The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins 😉 .  The storyline is very well written and kept me guessing the entire time.  If you haven’t already, check this one out!

My last book of the month really disappointed me.  I had high hopes for Truly Madly Guilty because I’ve heard great things about Liane Moriarty, but it wasn’t my favorite.  The first 200 pages of the book reference an “event” that happened, and it just felt dragged on to find out what that was.  I was ready for this one to be over but will definitely give Liane Moriarty another try!
